God does not want the mystery of His will to be unknown to us. Most mysteries are intended to not be revealed readily, but God's wisdom and insight is such that all believers are to know the Father's desire. God's wisdom is spoken `in a mystery' and `the hidden wisdom' not because it is something entirely unknown, but because it would have remained unknown if God had not revealed it (Romans 16:25-26; 1 Corinthians 2:7). And yet, quoting James Haldane, "So stupendous is the thought of God's dwelling with men on the earth, that eternity will be too short to unfold the mysteries of wisdom and goodness which are included in this event." The gospel is the admirable product of the eternal wisdom and counsel of God, and has in it such an inconceivable height, such an unfathomable depth, as to surpass our knowledge. This mystery was kept secret since the world began. During the Old Testament times this mystery was comparatively kept secret in the types and shadows of the ceremonial law and the dark predictions of the prophets. Even the disciples of Christ (before His resurrection and ascension) were very much in the dark about the mystery of redemption. The resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ has given the best exposition to the Old Testament prophesies. Being accomplished, they are now explained (Luke 24:27). This has been God's plan since before the foundation of the world, and the certainty of its fulfillment is assured by God's sovereignty over all His creation. The gospel has been made known to all nations for our glory. It has been revealed not to be talked of and disputed about, but to be submitted to. It is for the obedience of faith (that they may believe and obey it: receive it and be ruled by it). This short treatise discusses this topic in an easy-to-read, non-technical manner.Product details
